Working in oil and acrylic
For me, color is the essence of my painting. Vibrant hues
and dynamic contrasts encapsulate the life and energy in
my work.
Utilizing vivid color and expressive technique, oil or acrylic is applied using a variety of tools. These include different sizes of palette knives, brushes, scrapers, and an assortment of ‘found’ implements. Various twists and turns of the utensils are used in the process.
Karen has been drawing and painting since childhood. She transferred those skills into a career in the garment industry that lasted 30 years.
She has traveled the Americas, Europe, and parts of Africa. This travel has resulted in a vivid color palette. The palette is indicative of the energy reflected in her work.
“…line and shape, shadows and reflections of everyday life. Skies shift from marsh to desert. Contrasts and colors seem more intense as I put paint to canvas.”
“Everything about the process of painting excites me. This conversation between my brush, my canvas, and my paints continues to explore the nuances of expression and challenge.
Once I get involved in the work, I simply lose track of time. I love it when a piece almost paints itself.”
